Timigo Heroes support emergency services during Covid-19

It may have been a challenging six months, but as always, our team of Timigos have been going above and beyond to support the emergency services during the Covid-19 pandemic.

At Timico, our employees take great pride in helping worthwhile causes, and for us, it’s something we take pride in too. That’s why each employee is offered 24 hours paid volunteering leave, enabling them to help a charity or organisation without sacrificing holiday leave or salary pay.

We are also dedicated to raising money for charities close to our heart and each year, our staff band together to choose a Charity of the Year. At the start of 2020, we chose to support first aid charity, St John Ambulance, which has been supporting the community for years, as well as the NHS most recently in its Covid-19 efforts. If you would like to donate to St John Ambulance, our chosen Charity of the Year, please visit our Just Giving page.

During the lockdown, emergency services were over-stretched, relying heavily on volunteers – so it was a proud moment for us to hear how so many of our people here at Timico helped in the efforts.

Nick Noot-Davies, Virtualisation Architect, is a member of the Watersafe UK Search and Rescue Team, based in the East Midlands. In the event of a flood, the team is called upon to assist the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and local fire rescue services, by evacuating and rescuing people trapped by water. The team also supports police with river search and water rescue.

Rick Wall, 3rd Line Voice Engineer, works for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. As a Retained Fire Fighter, Rick responds to emergency call outs and is a blue light emergency driver. Having worked with the service for more than three years, he supported the team during the Covid-19 lockdown. His call outs included a water rescue, a car crash, house fires, chemical incidents and even a cat stuck in a tree.

Jennifer Colquhoun, Software Engineer, had volunteered as a Technical Specialist for the Cyber Specials Cyber Volunteers since 2019, supporting policing against cyber crime. The organisation is at the core of the digital community and relies on the technical expertise of its volunteers to fight against cyber crime. Jennifer’s IT knowledge has been crucial in helping local communities and improving policing in a digital reliant society.

And lastly, Richard Tyrell, Network Support Manager, chose to volunteer with West Mercia Search and Rescue after wanting to make a difference to people’s lives. The service enables highly trained specialists to support with missing people searches, flood and water rescue and the provision of care to anyone whose life is in danger. Having supported the organisation for more than seven years, Richard undergoes regular training to support the organisation in its life-saving work across Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

It’s fair to say that we have amazing people here at Timico, not only serving and supporting our customers, but taking that energy and compassion out into the community too – so a huge well done to you all!
