National Apprenticeship Week: How our Timigos have enhanced their careers with apprenticeships

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we spoke to some of our colleagues about how they benefited from an apprenticeship.

Taking place from 8 to 14 February this year, National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) is an annual event highlighting how apprenticeships help individuals build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career. This year in particular, NAW will also celebrate how apprenticeships have helped people and businesses adapt during a challenging year.

At Timico, we are dedicated to enhancing our employees’ skills and expertise, whether that be through apprenticeships, training programmes, or special courses.

Most recently, to benefit from an apprenticeship was our Service Desk Apprentice, Martin Ormita. He undertook an Infrastructure Technician (Level 3) apprenticeship with Just IT, finishing the course in JanuaryFollowing completion of his apprenticeship, Martin has now become a full-time employee at Timico.

He said: “I first decided to do an apprenticeship as I discovered that you could learn as you work. You get an insider’s knowledge of the business, with the apprenticeship covering a broad range of IT subjects from hardware and computer components to networking and IPs

Timico has been excellent in providing me with time off to study and undertake classes. I was able to visit other teams and could rely on my Line Manager for support when required. I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to do an apprenticeship while working at Timico. As the apprenticeship covered so many areas of IT, it has helped open up doors for me in my career and I’m excited to develop my skills even further throughout my career.”

15 of our staff are also currently or expecting to undergo an apprenticeship in the next month or so, with a wide breadth of learning subjects being covered, including technology, sales, management and HR.

Rodney McLeod, our Technical Co-Ordinator is starting his apprenticeship just this week. He decided to take CMI Diploma in Team Leadership (Level 3) with Derby Business College, after wanting to enhance his team leadership skills. He said: “I decided to do an apprenticeship as I wanted to gain more experience in a managerial role, and this course was the ideal solutionIt will provide me with the skills to move within the business and manage larger teams. Timico has been very supportive helping me to locate the training provider which will deliver the apprenticeship and allowing me the time to study and take classes.

One of our Account Managers, Hugo Bower will also be starting a 14-month APS Sales executive (Level 4) apprenticeship with BMS Performance in March.

He added: “Just some of the areas that the apprenticeship will cover will include understanding organisational vision, values, and strategyunderstanding a product servicelegal, ethical, and regulatory frameworks, and negotiating and closing sales

“Undergoing the apprenticeship will ensure that have the capability to surpass my performance targets and equally, will guarantee I am best serving my highly valued customers. The skills learnt will allow me to enhance relationships with my customers, better support them in their digital transformations, as well as accurately forecast and deliver on sales numbers.”

Joining Hugo on the course will be Account Manager, Vicki Reeves. She added: When the offer of the apprenticeship came up, my instinct was to say noas I thought I wouldn’t be able to do itBut, that’s when I realised it’s exactly what I should be doingThe apprenticeship is a transformation course with the support of a coach, continuous learning using a variety of methods, plus we can use any additional learning towards the course marks

“Timico has been great in allowing me to spend 20 per cent of my time over the course of the 14-months undergoing the course. It has been endorsed by senior managers and so I am confident I will get the support needed.”
