Apps to Improve Your Wellbeing

Apps to Improve Your Wellbeing

World Suicide Prevention Day should be a day of empowerment. It’s not a morbid topic. It’s getting real about problems that we may all face at stages in our lives.

Life is blimmin’ hard at times. I cannot write as a psychiatrist, but I can write as a survivor of multiple mental health problems. And although it’s not advisable to say this on a work platform, it’s about time corporations stopped acting like we’ve got it all together and started acting like humans.

Health and technology needn’t be opposites. Technology can give people a voice. Information can be shared, wisdom can be accessed, and millions of previously unheard voices can make you realise, whatever it is, you’re not alone.

Apps for Help

In the past, people traveled far and wide in search of answers, meaning and relief to suffering. It’s possible now to have teachings via video. YouTube content includes: Well-being centres, self-help guides, spiritual retreats and teachings. Whether you want a scientific approach, religious or spiritual, there are teachers online who can help you.

Apps for Mindfulness

‘Headspace’ and ‘Calm’ are two successful apps for practising mindfulness and meditation. Often, people don’t know where to start with mindfulness, and feel silly trying. These apps make the process fun and effortless, providing a user-friendly and enjoyable experience.

Apps for Motivation

Some of the brightest thinkers, scientists, religious leaders and motivational speakers appear on Ted Talks. Consider watching these for funny, insightful and jaw-dropping content.

Apps for Inspiration

A few weeks back, I dropped in on a webinar with Malala, the young Pakistani peace-activist and Noble-Prize laureate who stood against the Taliban and survived being shot. Webinars are a fantastic opportunity to listen to remarkable and perspective-giving stories and offer the chance to ask questions.

Apps for Sleep

Sleep is very important for well-being. Without it, we feel cranky, irritated and our energy is low. Luckily there are apps to help you sleep better. ‘Relax Melodies’ and ‘Rain Rain’ are two apps that promote relaxation and sleepiness. Now I’m yawning. 😊

Apps for Exercise

Countless studies link well-being to exercise. Not only are there physical benefits, but exercise can also give you a goal, fill your brain with happy hormones, make you feel good about yourself and distract you from thinking. Often the first step to healing is making a positive and healthy change in your life. Apps like ‘5 Minute Home Workout’, ’30 Day Fitness Challenge’, ‘Seven’ and ‘Fitbit’ all provide a platform to calculate, motivate and enjoy exercise.

Apps for Diet

Changing our diet can do wonders for our well-being. Simply by taking control of certain aspects of our lives, we return the empowerment necessary for health. ‘MyFitnessPal’ and ‘Lose It!’ Are examples of applications that track your diet, making it easy to stay on course and reap the benefits of healthy decisions.

Finally

It’s tough. And there is no one-size fits all solution to well-being. However, you may be surprised by what making a proactive change in your lifestyle can do. Remember, sometimes it’s advisable to stay clear of your phones and tablets. However, when used intelligently, technology can provide you with a universe of help and guidance. So, smile beautiful person! Namaste and good luck.
